About IU Expand

IU Expand is a portal for online non-credit and continuing education coursework offered to the IU community as well as the general public. Based on Instructure's Canvas Catalog platform, IU Expand allows you to browse the catalog to find and enroll in non-credit, continuing education credit, and certificate-based courses. Many courses are free, but some have fees payable upon enrollment. Many offerings are self-paced, self-study courses, while others involve online or in-person sessions.

Accessing IU Expand

To access the IU Expand catalog:

  • IU users: Go to the IU Expand login portal, click Log-in, and if prompted, authenticate using your IU credentials.

Note: Members of IU Canvas course sites will see their IU courses listed in IU Expand alongside their IU Expand courses.

  • Non-IU users: Non-IU users need IU Guest accounts to enroll in IU Expand courses:
    • If you do not already have an IU Guest account, go to the IU Expand login portal , and then, next to "Need an IU guest account?", click Create one now. After submitting your account information, you will receive instructions in email for completing the account creation process.
    • If you already have an IU Guest account, go to the IU Expand login portal , click Log-in, and then authenticate with your IU Guest account username and passphrase.

For more information about listing an offering in IU Expand, please complete the following:

  1. Obtain your school or department’s support
  2. Design and develop your offering in Canvas
  3. Contact your department’s Expand admin or email elearn@iu.edu for listing assistance

IU Expand Refund Policy

We reserve the right to make corrections, additions, and deletions to all courses. For whatever reason, if you are unhappy with a course or experience enrollment issues, please let us know by emailing us at elearn@iu.edu.

To request a refund of course fees, email your request to ooe@iu.edu. Please submit a copy of your PayPal invoice, to help expedite the refund request. Refund decisions are subject to final determination from the course’s host department; please allow 3-5 business days for a decision to be confirmed.

Courses that reflect registrant completion are generally nonrefundable.
